The Platform

One platform, multiple Hubs

NDP brings together secure research infrastructure, specialist data services and operational governance to support neurological research at scale.

Each Hub keeps what makes it distinctive. NDP runs the shared foundation underneath.

The hub model

What is an NDP Hub?

An NDP Hub is a dedicated data and research environment built around a particular programme, condition, community or collection of datasets.

Behind it, NDP provides shared infrastructure and managed data services — capabilities that are more efficient and sustainable when delivered once across a common platform.

Who does what

Programmes keep what needs to be distinctive

Led by the programme

Each Hub has its own

  • Name, identity and website presence
  • Scientific leadership and strategic priorities
  • Research and participant communities
  • Data providers and governance relationships
  • Access committee or approval arrangements
  • Discovery pages and application route
  • Dedicated researcher environments and specialist tools

Shared across every Hub

NDP provides underneath

  • Secure data storage and remote analysis environments
  • Data deposit and access processes
  • Information governance and compliance support
  • Data ingestion, curation and quality assessment
  • Metadata management and discovery tools
  • Imaging, genomic and multimodal data services
  • Scalable storage, compute and analytical software
  • Preparation for data linkage and federated analysis
  • Researcher onboarding, administration and technical support
  • Disclosure review and controlled output release

These capabilities can support the full data lifecycle — and can be used individually or brought together as a managed NDP Hub.

Secure and governed by design

Built on the Five Safes

NDP is delivered through SeRP’s secure infrastructure and managed within an ISO 27001 accredited information security management system, covering both technical operations and data management processes.

Safe data

Information is prepared and protected appropriately.

Safe projects

Use must be scientifically and ethically appropriate.

Safe people

Researchers are verified, trained and accountable.

Safe settings

Data are accessed within controlled research environments.

Safe outputs

Results are reviewed before they leave the environment.

Data stay inside

Approved researchers work remotely within secure project environments. Participant-level data remain inside the controlled infrastructure, and only approved outputs can be released.

Authority stays with you

Shared infrastructure doesn’t remove the authority of data providers or study governance panels. NDP facilitates the agreed processes and implements access decisions — it does not assume ownership of deposited data or override those responsible for approving its use.

Could your programme be an NDP Hub?

Your programme continues to lead the science and its community. NDP manages the complexity behind the data.
